Be Motivated Series: Does Your Attitude Help or Hurt You? by LaShawn Sithole

Many a book has been written on attitude. Today’s topic is just that. My favorite author on this subject passed away last year. This post is dedicated to the memory of “Dr. Attitude” Keith Harrell who made it clear that Attitude is Everything.

One of my favorite quotes by him is this: “You are successful when you remember that somewhere, sometime, someone gave you a gift. That gift is what started you in the right direction. Remember that you are blessed when you pass that gift on to help someone else.” ~Keith Harrell

Proverbs 14:30 in The Living Bible says, “A relaxed attitude lengthens a man’s life; jealousy rots it away.”

Here are two more excellent quotes:

“If you will call your troubles experiences, and remember that every experience develops some latent force within you, you will grow vigorous and happy, however adverse your circumstances may seem to be.” ~John Heywood

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, that what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company…a church…a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our Attitudes. ~Charles Swindoll
