Be Motivated Series: Get Out of Your Comfort Zone by LaShawn Sithole

What will it take to get us out of our Comfort Zones?

Just how did we get so comfortable there?

Before an issue can be properly be addressed, it must first be recognized for what it is. It is then -and only then- that that thing can be handled. Hanging out on a problem is not nearly as productive as exploring causes and solutions.

I guess that's the optimistic social worker in me.

Here are three things to consider. We'll call them our 'Thoughts of the Day.'

“Commit your work to The LORD, then it will succeed.”  Proverbs 16:3

“If you don’t have the best of everything, then make the best of everything you have.” John Foppe

“We can make our plans, but the final outcome is in God’s Hands.” Proverbs 16:1
Today’s video discusses personal responsibility and this excerpt seemed very appropriate to add as the opening:

“As you pursue your goals, attempting new and various methods of reaching your objectives, you will experience uncomfortable moments. Count on it! That’s part of the process. Anything new, different, or untried lies outside the comfort zone – in the land of the uncomfortable.

As you approach the edges of your comfort zone, you begin to experience a host of negative emotions: fear, guilt, unworthiness, depression and possibly anger.

These are feelings that usually accompany people who say, “I’m uncomfortable.” For many the explanation “I’m uncomfortable” is sufficient reason not to venture out. It’s little wonder, then, that these people seldom reach their dreams. They choose comfort over goals.

The subtle ways in which the comfort zone keeps you from your dreams are remarkable. The comfort zone reacts with, “Don’t do it!” messages long before we begin to take action. When we even think about doing something new and different, the comfort zone kicks in. Since birth we have been programmed to do whatever it takes to avoid fear, guilt, unworthiness and hurt. Therefore we think about something else – something more comfortable.

To reach your goal –to live out your dream- you must choose moment by moment, to take steps in the direction of your dream no matter how uncomfortable you may feel. Reaching one’s goal is not a matter of comfort – it’s a matter of achievement.”
